Make a list of your key stressors and identify any unhealthy ways you coped as well as the outcome. Sometimes it can be difficult determining if the way you handled the situation had an impact on the outcome. Therefore, list the outcome of the situation to see if how you coped had any impact. 3. Establish work boundaries

5. Take time to organize

No one wants to waste precious time away from deadlines. However, we promise it’s worth it. You may suffer from organizational stress if:

  • You barely see the surface of your desk.
  • The background on your desktop is buried.
  • Your filing cabinets double as a dumping bin.
  • You download everything to a single folder and hope for the best when you want to find it again.
  • When you misplace or can’t find something, you have mini heart attacks.

So you can probably be more organized, but you have to meet precious deadlines. How do you find the time to organize? We have two strategies:

  1. Organize little by little.
  2. Wait until deadlines are met and you know you have more free time.

4. Speak with upper management or human resources

Communication is key. You’ve also heard this before, and once more it’s no less important. If an issue arises at work and handling it causes you severe bouts of stress, talk to someone about it. Depending on the circumstances surrounding the issue, you may want to talk to your boss, upper management, or human resources. Many times, the idea of communicating grievances comes off as a weakness. However, the real weakness lies in the fear of proper communication. Therefore, unsurprisingly, this may cause overwhelming stress. Learn to communicate issues and grievances, and it can relieve some of your stress.

6. Avoid multi-tasking

We hate to break it to you, but multitasking significantly reduces productivity. In fact, studies report that you’re not actually doing two things at once. The brain can only focus on one task at a time. You may be scratching your head thinking, “But I multitask all the time? How is this possible?” Your brain quickly switches focus from one task to the next and back again. Because it is doing this so quickly, you cannot put a lot of focus on a single task thus resulting in less overall productivity.

It is relevant to note that younger generations are “multitasking” or switching focuses more easily due to the use of the internet and social media. Likewise, research still suggests focusing on one task at a time maintains higher levels of productivity. Therefore, you may think doing two things at once will achieve faster results. However, in the long run, it will just accumulate more stress.

7. Take a fitting lunch break

Let your mind recharge. Instead of taking an hour on social media, find something healthier and more productive to do. For example, take a walk. This obviously depends on your job’s physical surroundings and location. If it has a sidewalk and adequate weather, put some headphone in and take a quick stroll. Taking the time to give your mind a break can also reduce stress. Pairing that with mild exercise and some nature serves as a great solution to not only destress but to excell at your job.
